Lavanderia a Vapore is the only centre for dance residencies in Piedmont. Performances, artistic residencies, training programmes and multidisciplinary projects breathe life into the diverse spaces of what was once the laundry of Italy’s biggest psychiatric hospital.

We imagine Lavanderia a Vapore as a container.
It’s a box where a lot of magic happens: performances, residencies, artistic returns, involvement of the local community, the presence of students and artists from different parts of the world.
It’s a box where a lot of magic happens: performances, residencies, artistic returns, involvement of the local community, the presence of students and artists from different parts of the world.
So, we developed the “box” with a layout capable of hosting any type of content without contaminating it but instead presenting an image that evolves, dances upon itself, and accompanies what happens by placing it in a rolling frame.

Lavanderia a Vapore, as a wishing machine, is transformed into an organism that neither fulfils nor satisfies desires, but offers people a gym to practice desire, to learn to desire starting from the rediscovery and deep listening of pleasure, known as a space for rediscovering ourselves and possible rebellions.
